So, I haven’t posted here lately but it isn’t for lack of working. I just finished the rough draft for a big project. I don’t know if I’m supposed to talk about it yet though (I’m not a spy).
I also wrote this piece about St. Benedict for Catholic Exchange. Pope Benedict had this to say about him, “In the anxiety and confusion of his day, he lived under God’s gaze and in this very way never lost sight of the duties of daily life and of man with his practical needs.” I could use a little of that.
I’ve also found a lot of time to cook big meals lately which is something I love. Risotto, eggplant, tomatoes. Lots of great stuff coming out of the garden these days. We’re still getting lots of beans but sometimes I forget to harvest and they get way too big.
We have a lot of hot peppers this year and I’ve really enjoyed using those. I made a chili paste that I’ve been eating on everything and I’ve been frying some up for breakfast.
I’ve been working on some sewing projects. And I just finished rereading Flannery O’Connor’s The Violent Bear It Away. Anybody read anything good lately? Work on any big projects?
So, dad jokes are those corny one-liners that dad like to tell the waitress to embarrass their kids. The other day, I went with the family to pick up my bike after it got a tune up.
Me: I’m supposed to pick up my bike.
Clerk at the bike shop: What’s the name?
Me (with big grin): Well, I’m Daniel but the bike doesn’t have a name.
Clerk: *blank stare*
Haley: *eye roll*
I’m very excited about embarrassing my family with dad jokes for years to come. Anybody got any good dad jokes?
Oh, and a coworker put this tiny lizard on my desk last week. That’s noteworthy, right?
